Attendance at St Mary’s
At St Mary’s we expect our pupils to be on time and in school every day. Everyone gets ill occasionally, but usually illnesses such as colds do not require time at home. Pupil attendance should aim to be 100% and no less than 96%. Persistent absence will result in both informal and formal meetings. Informal meetings offer support, formal meetings provide a plan for parents and pupils to adhere to. Continued persistent absence may result in a fine.
Pupils who are late after the register closes will be marked as unauthorised absence for that session. School opens at 8.45 for an 8.55 start. Punctuality is crucial to avoid lost learning. Just 10 minutes every day results in almost an hour of lost learning a week!
Leave in term time such as holidays will not be authorised. Unauthorised leave may result in a fine from Birmingham City Council.
We have a strong pastoral offer and are happy to work with parents to get their children into school. Speak to us if there is an issue, no matter how small it may seem.
