REF: Christmas Events
Wednesday 8th December 2021
The following events have been mentioned over the past weeks in the coming soon section of the weekly newsletter. If you are not seeing the newsletter it can be found on the website under the News and Events tab or on the home page at the bottom of the page. The newsletter is posted on a Friday evening and should be available to access from Friday evening/ Saturday. www.stmaryshandsworth.co.uk
We are aiming to go ahead with the children’s Christmas parties next week, unless guidance changes in the meantime. Key Stage 1 will be held on Tuesday 14th December and KS2 will be held on Wednesday 15th December. Parties will be held in the classroom and in the hall. Each year group or phase will have some time in the hall for dancing. Parties will be held in the afternoon.
Children may attend school in their party clothes. Please ensure that they have a warm coat and sensible shoes as, weather permitting, the children will still go outside to play. Those children wishing to wear footwear more in keeping with their outfit, if not appropriate for outdoor wear, will need to bring the change of footwear in a labelled bag to keep in the classroom until the afternoon.
Children will be provided with squash juice drinks during the afternoon. Please send in a small donation of party food. The food will be shared amongst the class. Please be mindful that the children will have eaten at lunchtime and will only need party snacks. Please do not send in any food that contains nuts. If your child has food allergies you may wish to send in an individual snack plate for your child.
Christmas Jumper Day
Friday 10th December is Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day. Children may wear Christmas jumpers with their school uniform instead of their uniform top. If you do not have a Christmas jumper or top please don’t buy one specially; jumpers/tops can be personalised by adding tinsel, baubles or bows. A red top with silver tinsel or a green top with Christmas baubles would look very festive! A £1 donation for Save the children would be appreciated but is not essential.
We will be holding our end of term church service on 16th December. On this occasion, given current co-vid levels, the proximity to the holidays and the fact that the whole school will be together, we
will not be inviting Parents to join us. We are disappointed that this decision has had to be made but everyone’s safety is our priority.
We are inviting children to make Christingles in preparation for our service. Children should bring an orange (not a satsuma) into school on Monday 13th December if they wish to make one in school. Alternatively, children may wish to make one at home as homework. They will need an orange, red ribbon or tape, cocktail sticks, dolly mixtures and a small candle (a birthday cake candle in a holder or in a cut out foil lined incision would be ideal) The ribbon/tape should go around the middle of the orange - horizontally. There should be 4 cocktail sticks with dolly mixture sweets in the top with a small candle in the top centre.
Year 2 will be performing the Nativity (regulations permitting) in school on Friday 10th December at 2.00pm. Due to the current situation we will only be able to accommodate 2 people per year 2 child. Masks are essential unless exempt and a coat would be wise as the windows will remain open to circulate the air.
We are pleased to be able to participate in some of our usual Christmas events this year especially after a Christmas without last year. We hope that we may be back to being able to celebrate fully next year!
