Co-Vid19 update - Amendments to further opening for Years 6, 1, R and N

Dear Parents/Carers

Further to my letter dated 22nd May 2020 there has been a need to slightly delay the wider re-opening of school to year 6. The year 6 children who have a confirmed place will now start school on TUESDAY 9th JUNE 2020 and not Monday 8th as previously planned. Year 1 and EYFS will still start on Wednesday 10th June.

The vast majority of the information provided in my last letter remains the same. Please see below for minor ammendments and new information;

· Year 6 children will still enter and exit school through their classroom doors with the exception of those pupils in Pod 3 (children’s pod allocation will be clearly displayed) who will enter and exit the building through the side fire door at the top of the playground steps.

· The front entrance is still a one way system but no longer uses the grass please follow the arrows.

· Year 1 pupils will still enter school from the rear entrance but will be collected from the playground. They should wait maintaining social distancing by the signposted barriers.

· Pupils will bring home a Co-Vid19 home/school agreement on their first day – please share this with your child. We expect this to be closely followed.

· In our Co-Vid section on the website you will find information with regards to track and trace – appointments for testing can be booked through the NHS website. Please DO NOT enter school premises or send your child into school if they or any member of your household is exhibiting any symptoms of Co-Vid19. Any pupil developing signs will be placed in isolation and you will be expected to collect them immediately. The child will then need to be tested in order for us to establish if their pod isolates or not. Any child moved to our isolation room should be collected from the car park entrance.

· A face mask is not required while your child is in school. If you wish for your child to wear a face covering on the way into school they should bring a plastic bag to put their face mask into before entering the building, tie a knot in the top and store until they have left the school building. Where possible parents should take the bag home until they collect their child again later.

· Drop off and collection must be prompt. Please do not try to hold a discussion with the teacher at this point but instead telephone school or use the year group emails (see website) to contact if necessary. General queries can be dealt with by the school office.

· Drop off and collection times are not to be used as an opportunity to catch up with friends that you haven’t seen for a long time. We want to ensure that we avoid groups or queues in an effort to keep everyone safe.

· Children should not bring any items from home except a coat (we will be spending time outdoors), a water bottle (essential as we will not be able to provide cups) and a wrapped healthy snack for break time. This could be something like an apple wrapped in foil or cling film. We will not be sending items such as reading books home at this time due to the risk of cross contamination.

· Start and end times are staggered for safety and therefore we are unable to take children from different year groups from the same family at the same time. Start and end times are unfortunately not flexible again this is to ensure that drop offs/collections are as safe as is practically possible.

· Statistics indicate that the Co-Vid 19 virus disproportionately affects people from BAME groups. We understand that this may cause additional anxiety for parents whose children are due to return to school. Measures in place are in line with guidance and we are happy to talk through any anxieties with you. At this time, we appreciate that this may be a reason for parents not wanting their child to return to school and will respect families decisions.

Please ensure that signage is read and that social distancing is maintained. Please ensure that only one parent/carer drops/collects pupils to reduce the number of visitors to site.

Please ensure that you have read the letter dated 22.05.20 for other information.

Resources and links to support learning at home will continue to be updated on the website. Year 6 have some work to do with regards to their leaver’s celebration video and a transition booklet that the year 6 staff have already shared. If you have not seen this please do look at the website so that your child does not miss out on taking part.

We look forward to welcoming some of you back next week.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs Booker
