Update from Mrs Booker
In over 20 years of teaching I have never experienced a situation like our current one. This is an unprecedented situation and one I hope that we never have to repeat. The guidance from the government is clear and schools are being closed to the majority of pupils until further notice. The most recent scientific advice on how to limit the spread of COVID-19 is clear. If children can stay safely at home they should in order to limit the chance of the virus spreading. That is why the government has asked parents to keep their children at home wherever possible. Whilst COVID-19 will not seriously affect the majority of the population it is a virus that should be taken seriously and ultimately can cause serious illness or worse in a small percentage of the population.
Packs of work have been sent home and the class pages on the school website have copies of these packs. Please remember that Education City and Times Table Rock Stars are available for your child to access. The website will be updated with links to websites and activity ideas. For the small number of Vulnerable or Key worker’s children who are in school the guidance is very clear that it is not business as usual and that the curriculum will not be followed. My staff have been excellent in their approach to this situation and are working within an environment potentially harmful to their and their families health. We will endeavour to keep the school open for as long as we are able for the children of frontline workers. Obviously this will be dependent upon us having staff that are fit and healthy. The rules around self-isolation will remain during this period.
The parents of children entitled to free school meals have been contacted with regards to lunches. Universal free school meals will not be available at this time.
In order to fulfill our safeguarding duties children with a CP or CIN plan will be contacted by telephone weekly. In addition all children will be contacted by telephone by their class teacher – we aim to do this once a fortnight as is possible.
We hope that you are all safe and well during this period and wish you all well. We will keep parents informed of any changes by text message or via the website, so do check regularly. We hope to see you all again very soon. Look after yourselves – we will miss you.
