    Responsibility and Justice

At St. Mary’s, we are committed to nurturing a community that lives out the values of Love, Hope, and Peace through a deep sense of justice and responsibility. Rooted in our Christian vision, we encourage every member of our school to be a lifelong learner and an active contributor to the flourishing of others.

    Developing Character Through Responsibility

We believe that every child is uniquely gifted and has the capacity to lead and serve. Our pupils are given meaningful opportunities to take on leadership roles that foster responsibility, integrity, and a sense of justice. These roles include:

    • Head Boy and Head Girl
    • Prefects
    • School Council Representatives
    • Worship Leaders
    • Anti-Bullying Ambassadors

These positions empower pupils to make a positive impact within the school and model our Christian values in action.

    Engaging with the Wider World

Justice at St. Mary’s goes beyond the school gates. Through our bespoke curriculum, tailored to the needs of our richly diverse community, pupils explore local and global issues and learn how they can be agents of change. Our engagement includes:

    • Young Leaders Award: Inspiring pupils to take action on social justice issues.
    • Black History Celebration Week
    • Stephen Lawrence Day
    • Wear Green Day
    • Say No to Racism Day
    • Charitable Events and Fundraisers

These experiences help children understand their place in the world and the importance of standing up for what is right.

    Stewardship and Social Action

We actively promote environmental responsibility and peace-making through initiatives such as:

    • Eco-Champions: Linked to the Let’s Go Net Zero campaign, encouraging sustainable practices.
    • Peacemakers Programme: Supporting conflict resolution and emotional literacy.
    • Collective Worship Leaders: Encouraging spiritual reflection and community service.

Through these programmes, pupils learn that justice involves caring for others and for creation, and that responsibility means taking action to make the world a better place.
