    Culture of Respect

At the heart of St. Mary’s vision are the theologically rooted Christian values of Love, Peace, and Hope. These values shape every aspect of our school life, ensuring that all members of our community — pupils, staff, families, and visitors — are cared for, respected, and valued.

    A Community Rooted in Love

Our commitment to a culture of respect begins with our belief that every child is uniquely made in the image of God. We nurture this understanding through daily practice, encouraging pupils to explore their spirituality and personal identity in a safe, inclusive environment. Our school vision inspires children to live out the value of Love, showing kindness and compassion to others.

    Supporting Families and Building Relationships

We recognise that respect and care extend beyond the classroom. At St. Mary’s, we actively build strong, trusting relationships with parents and carers. Weekly parent workshops for each year group provide opportunities for families to engage with our curriculum, gain valuable skills, and become lifelong learners alongside their children.

We are unwavering in our support for families, especially during times of need. Whether it’s ensuring every child has access to uniform, providing food parcels through the Handsworth Association, or offering Early Help referrals, our school stands as a pillar of support. Events such as our Book Giveaway further demonstrate our commitment to equity and inclusion.

    Promoting Pupil Wellbeing and Voice

We are proud to offer a wide range of initiatives that promote pupil wellbeing and ensure every child feels heard and respected. These include:

    • MyHappyMind: A whole-school mental health and wellbeing programme.
    • Activ60 and Sports Premium: Encouraging physical health and emotional resilience.
    • Outdoor Library: A quiet, reflective space available during break and lunch.
    • Friendship Stops and Anti-Bullying Ambassadors: Empowering pupils to support one another and seek help when needed.
    • Tesco Breakfast Funding: Ensuring no child starts the day hungry.

Our Pastoral Hub and mentoring programme provide tailored support for pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs. We celebrate acts of kindness through our Step Forward Award, reinforcing the importance of empathy and respect in everyday life.
