Back to School
Sat 27 Aug 2022We hope that everyone has had a lovely summer and are looking forward to welcoming everyone back to school in the near future.
A few reminders before we are back in school;
Children should be in full school uniform. This includes footwear and PE kit. If you have a temporary issue with correct uniform please speak to a senior member of staff. We hope that the mild weather continues well into the Autumn Term however we know that the rainy season will soon be upon us! Please ensure that children have a suitable coat in school daily as we will still encourage outdoor activities unless rain is heavy.
In order for the children to access fresh water please ensure that the children bring their water bottle daily. Juice, squash and pop are not permitted - only water in bottles please. Key stage one children are provided with fruit at morning play. Key stage two children may bring a piece of fruit to eat at morning snack time. Other snacks are not permitted.
School lunches can be booked via Squid Pay online. A reminder that payments must be made by the Sunday evening before the week that lunches will be taken. A reminder that Packed lunches should not contain any container made from glass, nuts or unhealthy snacks such as sweets. Lunchtime drinks must not be fizzy pop. Please note that staff are unable to heat packed lunch food for children due to health and safety around food temperature. If your child only eats hot food please book school lunches or send heat retaining containers such as an appropriate thermos.
Children do not need to bring large school bags or pencil cases as equipment is provided. The only items that they need to bring are their book bag, water bottle and packed lunch bag if required. As we are currently still attending school in PE kit on PE days (subject to change) they do not require PE bags either.
Mobile phones are not permitted unless your child walks home alone. Please put in writing that your child has a phone and/or walks alone - all phones MUST be given in to the school office at the start of the school day. A reminder to inform the office if your child will be collected by someone who does not regularly collect - provide a password to school and to the person collecting. Try to ensure that your child is aware of collection plans before they come to school. Please always inform the school office of any absence on the first day of absence and keep them informed over the duration of the absence.
If you require after school care you must be registered with the service. Places must be booked in advance so that staffing numbers are appropriate. A reminder that our school childcare begins at 8.00am and ends at 5.30pm - if you work outside of these hours a child minder may be a better provider for your needs.
School starts at 8.55am but children may enter the school building and go to class from 8.45am. This soft start should not be used as child care as on rare occasions, when circumstances change, the door may not open until after this time. School ends at 3.20pm for KS1 and 3.30pm for KS2 (this allows a staggered end and reduces congestion in the playground). Parents/carers who are late to collect must sign their child out from the main entrance. Significant or frequent lateness may result in your child being placed in after school care and this will incur a charge.
If you wish to speak to a member of staff during the school day they will be teaching, please leave a message and they will get back to you as soon as possible. You can also pass on a message via the school office. Alternatively book an appointment with the member of staff for the end of the school day.
We hope that the reminders are helpful for a smooth start to the school year.
Looking forward to seeing you all.
Mrs Booker

UPDATE for Tuesday 19th July
Mon 18 Jul 2022Due to extreme heat forecast for tomorrow we are giving parents/carers the option to collect children at 1.15p.m, after they have had lunch, from the playground. We will keep classes in the shade for collection.
Today the hall was 4 degrees hotter than the temperature outside at lunchtime. If temperatures reach 36 at lunch tomorrow as suggested, the hall could reach 40 degrees. If parents would therefore like to collect their child before lunch they may do so but will have to sign their child out at the office no later than 12 ks1 and 12.15 ks2.
If you are unable to collect children at 1.15 we will of course keep them on site until their usual end of school time. We ask that parents either sign children out before lunch or collect from playground at 1.15 or at the end of the school day. We will not release children at other times during the school day.
Please send children in shorts and T-shirt if they find this cooler. Please do not send bags and coats (except lunchboxes if they are staying for lunch) to make dismissal simple. Please ensure sun cream is applied, hats are worn and that they bring water bottles. Please inform office of any absence in the same way as usual to ensure it is authorised.

Once again, if you decide to keep your child at home tomorrow, please inform school to ensure an authorised absence. Parents may opt to collect their children at or after lunchtime due to extreme heat conditions p.m. A decision on school opening p.m will be made based on the forecast later this evening.

Heatwave -Red Alert
Sun 17 Jul 2022The summer has well and truly arrived and we have had some very hot days over the past couple of weeks. We already have measures in place for the hot weather which have been working well. The Met Office have forecast very high temperatures for Monday and Tuesday next week with temperatures in Handsworth expected to reach 35 degrees. We will continue to put our hot weather measures in place next week. We have; Fans/air conditioning units in our warmest rooms. All new build rooms have air cooling systems. Identified shaded areas to access the outdoors Alternative work spaces for those in the warmest rooms Opportunity to work outdoors in the shade Access to extra water A revised lunchtime provision to ensure children are not sat in the hall for lunch for too long Blinds to shield from the sun Lights and other electrical equipment turned off to reduce unnecessary extra heat PE will not go ahead based on heatwave advice to avoid being over active.
We ask that children; Have sun cream applied before they come to school. Wear a hat for outdoor use and do not wear a school jumper. If children feel cooler in Shorts and t-shirt to wear PE kit Bring their refillable water bottle already filled with water. Sit in the shade at breaktimes to access fresh air safely.
There is unlikely to be a blanket closure from Birmingham LA and we will remain open to all pupils. The DFE, at this point, have not made any measures to close schools. We understand that some parents may feel anxious over their child’s well being in the heat and accept that for some children parents may feel the heat is too much. In the event that you decide that your child will not attend school you must telephone the school office and report the absence in the same way as any other absence. Failure to inform school would result in an unauthorised absence.

Nativity Update
Thu 09 Dec 2021Nativity
We are very happy to confirm that, as there have been no changes in guidance, Year 2 will be performing the Nativity in school tomorrow, Friday 10th December, at 2.00pm. We look forward to seeing you!
Due to the current situation, we will only be able to accommodate two audience members per Year 2 child. Masks are essential unless exempt and a coat would be wise as the windows will remain open to circulate the air. If you are displaying any signs of Covid-19 please do not attend.
